With KRAFTON’s upcoming MMORPG, Elyon, barely out of the gates as a released IP in the West, it seems the Korean giant is set to start developing a brand new game, currently titled Project Windless. Announced on their official blog, the company goes into details about wanting to work on a game and franchise based on the Korean fantasy novel, The Bird That Drinks Tears. According to blog post, Project Windless was originally revealed in 2019, and has recruited Hollywood concept artist, Iain McCaig – who has worked on incredible projects such as his blockbuster film franchises The Avengers, Harry Potter, Star Wars and Terminator, to name a few.
Though exciting to have new games coming out of this amazing company, after all we have TERA, ELYON and the upcoming sci-fi horror game The Callisto Protocol, it is troubling to see a brand new project starting right as Elyon has barely left the gates of release. This brings me back to TERA when it first released, and Project W had begun production – which we now know today as Elyon – and left many fans wondering if focus at the company was truly on the game. I suppose only time will tell, but if anyone’s interested in The Bird That Drinks Tears novel series, you can find them by Yeong-do Lee, who is one of the best-selling fantasy authors in Korea.
I’ll be looking into this game and how it develops over the years, but if KRAFTON’s developmental history is anything to go by, we should probably see a product by 2027.
